In this edition, we delve into the lives and legacies of Trailanga Swami, Sitaramdas Omkarnath, Devraha Baba, Lahiri Mahasaya, and Totapuri Maharaj.

The land of Bharat has been a profound center of spiritual activity for thousands of years and is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, rich with a heritage of Vedic wisdom, profound philosophical inquiry, and mystical practices. The sages and seers of Bharat have explored the deepest realms of consciousness, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual knowledge that continues to inspire and guide seekers worldwide.

Trailanga Swami

Born in 1607 in Andhra Pradesh, Trailanga Swami, also known as Swami Ganapati Saraswati, transcended the confines of time and space through his extraordinary spiritual practices. Known as the “walking Shiva of Varanasi,” he performed miracles that defied physical laws and left a lasting impact on the spiritual fabric of Bharat.

Sitaramdas Omkarnath

Sri Omkarnath, a saint of immense devotion and wisdom, dedicated his life to the service of humanity and the divine. His teachings emphasized the power of Naam (the holy name) and the importance of devotion (bhakti) in achieving spiritual liberation. His life was a testament to the transformative power of divine love and unwavering faith.

Devraha Baba

Shri Devraha Baba, often referred to as the “ageless yogi,” was a Siddha Mahayogi whose mystical presence and miraculous powers attracted people from all walks of life. Living on a wooden platform above the holy rivers of India, his life was a series of divine miracles and profound teachings that continue to inspire spiritual seekers.

Lahiri Mahasaya

Lahiri Mahasaya, a householder yogi, played a pivotal role in reviving the ancient science of Kriya Yoga. His teachings bridged the gap between the spiritual and the mundane, demonstrating that one could achieve profound spiritual realization while fulfilling worldly responsibilities. His life and teachings have profoundly influenced the path of modern yoga and spirituality.

Totapuri Maharaj

Totapuri Maharaj, a master of Advaita Vedanta, was the esteemed guru of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. His teachings emphasized the non-dual nature of reality and the realization of the oneness of Atman (individual soul) and Brahman (universal consciousness). His guidance was instrumental in shaping the spiritual journey of one of Bharat’s greatest saints, Sri Ramakrishna.
