Can Nature Bring Us Happiness?
A person’s perception may change in the journey of life. The environment may be the same but it may be viewed differently at another time.
It happened to me recently. There is a beautiful pond with lush green grass and beautiful trees which is about two minutes from my home. I drove by it for so many years without giving it a second glance. The other day, I stopped by this wonderful place to appreciate its enthralling beauty. It lifted up my spirits immediately. Why had I failed to notice the splendor of this place before?
Sometimes we need time for ourselves. This place has become my haven and refuge. Most of all, it has given me peace. It is here that I can sometimes connect with God as my guide… With my iPhone in hand I can sit under a shady tree and play a devotional song while watching the cool rippling water in front of me. It is here that I can walk barefoot in the wet, green grass…. Or I can contemplate on a problem that was bothering me before but seems utterly inconsequential now… Or I can feel one with nature and utterly in bliss! How majestic and transforming is nature!!
After returning, this incredible view still remains in my imagination and can be conjured up to provide comfort and solace… Much like William Wordsworth has beautifully recalled the memory of a field of golden daffodils in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud (commonly known as Daffodils).
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
And the unforgettable experience my secret place remains with me…
