I treasure the moments when you cross paths with someone you did not know before and you feel changed for better after the meeting. And I had precisely such a moment when I met Susan Griffith-Jones, a creative, innovative artist from the UK.

The scope of Susan’s work stretches from journalism, writing, ‘photo collage’ art and educational workshops, and the driving force behind it is her passion for Eastern teachings. She spent almost two decades in India and Nepal, researching and studying Buddhism with Tibetan spiritual masters. The knowledge she gained is incorporated in all her works. Susan is currently shooting two documentaries: about the River Ganges and the Bosnian Pyramid Complex. Her latest and most intriguing work is Crystal of Time, a multidimensional video art installation based on sacred geometry.

As an artist, you like to experiment with different forms and styles, what is your favourite way of communication with your audience?

I love digital technology because it has the advantage to immerse people into what you are trying to express. It is putting people in the situation and letting them experience it. So, you have to create a whole scenario for them to go through it. It is like a transmission, like the initiation process, and is more effective and more enjoyable to people. When you are just standing on the stage and presenting something, people will remember only 20% of it, and even this is mostly intellectual. We are not looking for this; we want to go beyond the intellect because it stands on the very surface of our conscience.

Where did the inspiration for Crystal of Time come from?

I had an exhibition of my photo collage art in London in 2006. The name is something that I made up myself. I started doing this in 2005, while I was living in Katmandu, Nepal. We came back from the expedition, and I realized that I have thousands of photos. I put them on the floor and thought that it is a shame if I don’t do something with these beautiful pictures. As they were on the floor, one or two started jumping out. I started creating mandala shapes from them, and this was the beginning of photo collage art. From there, I became obsessed with shapes representing five elements of Highest Yoga Tantra of Tibetan Buddhism. I was experimenting: for example, the wind is a ball shape, fire is a triangle, the earth is square, and water is a circle. I used colours to present different traditions, to give it a base.

Was it hard to start? What was the first key?

Words have power. They are magical. But you have to follow the road. I started Crystal of Time with the word DRAGON.  I was exploring the element of earth energy lines which took me to so many exciting places that have a dragon as a symbol and part of their culture. I was invited to do a talk about some topics in Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet. There, I was introduced to this beautiful world of amazing Naga beings, from Naga Loka dimension. Kailash is the place where these beings are very prominent.

Later I researched all about serpentine beings across the world. I went to China, Thailand, Vietnam. All these places have the representation of dragons and serpentine creatures. Word is always key.

The second key was FRACTAL. I went in deep because I wanted to present how connected we are to every single layer of the reality that we exist in. But we also exist as a self in that human,  as atoms of that human. In another dimension, we exist as the planets, as a Sun, stars, Solar system, galaxies, Universe, and the Multiverse. We are each of these layers.

The third key was CRYSTAL. The crystal is the mind, the carrier of all frequencies, a vast multi-dimensional mirror, angled in all directions, catching all frequencies and reflecting all into a manifestation of sorts.

I was following. It was all in some way interrelated. I focused on different subjects: crystals, fractality, dragons, and then I went deeper into the science of it.

All this came afterwords: electromagnetic energy, scalar waves, and octaves of harmonic resonance.

What is the message behind the Crystal of Time?

It represents a closed circle, something that we can become if we do not open ourselves to our multidimensionality. Crystal of Time shows our multidimensionality within different spheres.

When we become egotistical or when we are in the stage of EGO we are like a closed circuit, and we don’t reach out to the other branches of our dimensionality. We become this small being, which thinks it is at the centre of everything. But when we break through that barrier of low egotistical self, we have access to all these multidimensional layers.

In a nutshell, this is what Crystal of Time represents, although there are so many layers in it.

Some pieces you’ve done were re-formed into a documentary; will this be the case with Crystal of Time?

I made another movie when I was living in Kathmandu. And while doing this, I realized that I needed to embed a structure into it. And that structure itself has correct geometry and correct vibration of transmission. So, I thought, if I were able to have this then theoretically, the movie would also have the right wave of transmission. I experimented.

The art piece that this movie is based on is called Circle of Immortality. Later, when I started doing a film about Bosnian pyramids, I knew that it would have the same type of structure. When Crystal of Time was finished as an object-installation, I realized that it would be the structure of the movie on the Bosnian Pyramids, because that place inspired it.

Sacred geometry as a base for a documentary: is it hard to incorporate all this knowledge into a movie? And how do you do it?

I use the narration, sound, visuals, timing, all these different tools. For example, octavo harmonic resonance is running through the spine of the Crystal of Time. There will be eight particular segments of the movie, but that is just a base. I’ll use all of this to make a perfect structure. Music has to be correctly timed; it has to have a right beat and frequency. The point is to create a transmission. All the angles have to be correct; all the positioning of the shapes have to be exact.  I’m going to make a tridimensional place, where people will be able to sit and feel the energetical vibrations. I will also create a small electronic device for this purpose.

When will Crystal of Time be presented to the audience and where?

My piece in the form of installation will be a part of the exhibition in London in 2023. As for the movie, I’m not sure yet. It is a long process, and I don’t want to force things. I trust that it will come at the right time, with the right people and everything else. I have nothing to do but to follow the road.

My life is straightforward because it’s what I do. I always follow the road.
